The class of 2026 class officer elections start today (9/13) after campaigning on Monday. The field of candidates for Junior Class President are Hayden Gessner, Phol Jiraphasuksakul, Abbie Rowland, and Charlotte Weghorst. All of the candidates were asked the same questions about their running.
What made you want to run for president?
“I just thought to put myself out there and I’ve always been a natural-born leader. I’ve built a lot of friendships in sports or class and I just think It is a good role for me.”
What are you going to do as president?
“Well, my main focuses are prom and speeches for graduation. But I also will be listening to people and making sure to hear everyone’s complaints out.”
Do you feel like you could win and why?
“I do feel like I could win because I have a lot of support from my friends and other people in my class.”
What are you going to do first as president?
“I want to congratulate all of the other candidates because that takes a lot of confidence and a lot of courage to put yourself out there like that.”
What is going to make you a good president?
“Like I said before, I gravitate towards the leadership role and I think I am a really good listener and can make sure everyone who has complaints can get a solution.”
What made you want to run for president?
“I can do a lot and I think it’ll be a fun time”
What are you going to do as president?
“I wanna bring new opportunities to Highlands and fix the lunch, make it better, bring back calzones and other things the students like.”
Do you feel like you could win and why?
“Yes, ’cause I’m him and I’m super confident. I also have good policies and awesome posters.”
What are you going to do first as president?
“I’m gonna listen to the people and see what they want for our school.”
What is going to make you a good president?
“Cause I’m going to talk to people, a lot of people. I want everyone’s voices to be heard.”
What made you want to run for president?
“My sister ran for president when I was in like 7th grade and hearing her speech for graduation inspired me, my friends also convinced me to run.”
What are you going to do as president?
“I want to implement everyone’s ideas and just become a student representative.”
Do you feel like you could win and why?
“I do, because I have many people supporting me and I’ve been working hard on my campaign. But I also think we all have a good shot at winning.”
What are you going to do first as president?
“The first thing I would do is congratulate the other candidates and also implement their ideas into my work, they all have very good ideas.”
What is going to make you a good president?
“I’m in a lot of clubs so I am a very organized person and since I know a lot of people I think I am very trustworthy and the other students will come to me with their problems.”
Charlotte Weghorst
Charlotte Weghorst was not present because of an AP Biology field trip. One of her major campaign goals is to bring therapy dogs to Highlands High School to help manage students’ stress.
