Last night, people across America were glued to their TV’s as they watched the election results roll in. Even if you’re not old enough to vote, the outcomes of this election could be very impactful on our country.  

Nationally, the outcome came out mostly as expected. According to the Associated Press, the republicans maintained control of the senate (51-43), but the democrats took control of the house (220-193).

However, many elections across the country made history last night.

According to CNN, A record number of 96 women won house seats. Sharice Davids and Deb Haaland became the first Native American women to be elected to congress. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar became the first Muslim women to be elected to congress. Jared Polis became the first openly gay man elected for governor. Texas also elected two hispanic women to congress, Veronica Escobar and Sylvia Garcia, for the first time in history.

There were also major local elections last night.
