Marching Band Places Top Ten In Final Championship
On Saturday, November 3rd, the Highlands Marching Band competed in the Mid-States Division AA Championships, placing 7th overall.
The Birds beat twenty-four other bands to get to the finals and originally placed 6th in the prelims.
The band then managed to increased their score to 74.1 during the final performance, securing their place in the top ten.
The theme for this season was The Rhythm Inside Us and featured love, heartbreak, and happiness all in a seven and a half-minute show.
This season was one of the best for the BandBirds.
At the Taylor High School Invitational earlier in September, the band placed 1st place in class AA, winning several awards such as best percussion, best music, and general fan favorite.
For guard member Kerison Bailey, sophomore, watching this season come to a close has been hard, but it went better than she could have ever hoped for.
“Being on the field and performing my heart out one last time felt exhilarating,” Bailey explained, “I felt as a whole, we couldn’t have had a better run this season.”
Many of the BandBirds are taking a well-needed break before transitioning into other activities such as winter guard and winter percussion.
