High School Students Win Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
Each year, thousands of middle and high school students across the nation submit their works of art and writing to the Scholastic Awards. Submissions are then judged by mentors in the visual and literary arts, many whom are recipients of past awards. The mentors look for works that stand out for their skill, originality, and emergence of personal influence.
Of the 350,000 works submitted in 2018, eleven Highlands students received awards. There are four levels of regional awards; honorable mention, silver key, gold key, and American Voices & Visions Nominations. Recipients of the gold key are judged nationally and have the opportunity to receive National Medals. National Medalists are recognized in part of a ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Best of luck to the gold key recipients as their work(s) continue onto the next panel of judges.
