On Thursday, October 19, the Highlands football team finished their regular season with a 57-6 win over the Scott Eagles. The Birds concluded with a 9-1 record and their best regular season record since 2013.
The game started off slow as the Birds returned a punt to inside the 20-yard line and would then score off a Brody Benke run, on the ensuing drive the Eagles would score their only points of the night. The Birds ended the first quarter up 14-6 and would go into halftime up 43-6. Highlands’ defense stepped up big time after their first drive as they ended the night with four interceptions.
Highlands will have their bye week next week and will play the loser of South Oldham vs. Martha Layne Collins in the first round of the KHSAA 5A state playoffs.
The Birds currently are first in the playoff seedings for all of 5A however, that is subject to change as the majority of teams still have two games to play.
