Highlight videos are essential to the recruiting process for student athletes. Many athletes have to make a video that shows clips of their best plays during their season, whether that is club season or high school season.
“Highlight videos should show clips of what you as an athlete do best; it should show a variety of strengths,” Kendall Graves (12) said.
Making sure that the videos include clips from difficult games is also a good way to showcase skills.
“You want to show your best plays but also show all the things that an athlete does well. Also, you want to put in competitive games and not just an athlete beating up teams that aren’t very good,” Vinny Listerman (11) said.
Highlight videos help athletes get their names out there and get looks from coaches from schools that the athlete may or may not be interested in; Either way, the exposure that highlight videos bring is positive for athletes overall.
“Highlight videos help athletes present their talents and skills to colleges that are unable to see them live or get an understanding of the type of player they are,” Reese Wilkens (11) said.
The exposure that highlight videos bring makes getting to the next level easier.
“The highlights help players grow their recruiting and connection with other schools at the next level,” Rio Litmer (11) said.
Highlight videos should consist of the plays that the athlete believes are their best and most impressive from the game they are pulling.
“A highlight reel should consist of your best plays and show what kind of player you are,” Tyus McCarter (12) said.
An athlete’s highlight video should not only consist of plays but also a little information about the athlete.
“Your highlight video should consist of your name and graduate year and position and should include hustle plays and should be consistent,” Marissa Green (12) said.
Highlight videos help student athletes get their name out there and get them the exposure they need from college coaches so that they can advance to the next level of school sports.
