Highlands High School Athletic Director, Wes Caldwell connected with City BBQ to bring them on board as a sponsor. The sponsorship continues to grow from here, and it contributes to the Highlands community.
“Playing on a college court is an unforgettable experience; we’re fortunate many of our girls have already had that opportunity. The larger court and unique atmosphere make it truly special,” Head Girls’ Varsity Coach, Jaime Richey said.
The Lady Birds are on an incredible ride right now, as they are currently 15-4 as of January 24.
They started their season off with a few big wins by beating Dixie Heights and Holy Cross, both teams they lost to last year.
With their versatile roster, the Birds showcase a variety of skills and contributions from players across the team. They will face a competitive Campbell County team that currently sits at 11-5.
“As long as we work as a team and stay committed, we’ll keep improving and winning,” center Ty Berry (12) said, “Playing on a college court is an exciting chance to experience the next level and grow together.”

The Highlands boys’ varsity team is off to a great start this season with a 13-5 record.
Their success comes from strong defense, solid teamwork, and consistent scoring. The players work well together, with everyone contributing to the team’s wins.
They have faced some tough competition and have defeated the Ryle Raiders and earned a solid win over Newport Central Catholic.
“With our season going strong, I’m confident we can take down Campbell County, but it’s going to be a tough game, and we’ll need to do our best to win,” Nathan Richard (11) said.
To finish off the night on Sunday, the Newport Wildcats (11-7) will face St. Xavier from Louisville (19-2) in what promises to be an exciting and highly competitive matchup.
Both teams are known for their intensity and skill on the court, making this game a must-watch for basketball fans.
Newport will look to use their strong offense and physical defense to challenge St. Xavier, while the Louisville powerhouse will aim to showcase their disciplined play and depth. This game highlights the best of Kentucky basketball and will be a thrilling conclusion to a day packed with action.
“I focused on our team first, then looked for strong local teams with great fan bases that bring tough competition. For the final game, I highlighted a matchup showcasing the best teams in the state,” Highlands Athletic Director Wes Caldwell said.

This event is about more than just basketball—it is a full showcase of school spirit and community pride. The Highlands cheer team will be there throughout the day, bringing energy and excitement to the arena. Their performances will keep the crowd engaged, rallying fans to support their teams and creating a lively atmosphere for players and spectators alike.
“I’m excited to cheer in the stadium because it holds so many more fans, and I know the energy will be energetic with even more supporters cheering everyone on,” Rudi Wilson (12) said.
This event is one of a kind and the Bluebirds would love to have a packed house for the triple header action.
“A triple-header is a great chance for our athletes to compete, our fans to bring the energy, and our community to come together. It’s going to be an exciting day of basketball,” Caldwell said.
