Girls soccer heads to state with a 1-0 victory over Notre Dame Academy

The Highlands girls soccer team holds up “W” after taking down Notre Dame Academy.

Highlands secured victory over Notre Dame Academy on Saturday, October 18, in the 9th Region Championship.

Offensively, Highlands was led by Ally Lickert (9) who scored the game’s only goal to give the birds the win. Gabby Simon (11) added the assist that set up the play.

In goal, Bailee Class (11) delivered a standout performance, recording 8 saves and allowing 0 goals to earn the shutout. Highlands’ defense held strong throughout the match, preventing Notre Dame Academy from converting on multiple scoring opportunities.

The win secured Highlands the 9th Region title, improving their record 12-9-2 with 55 goals scored and 24 goals allowed on the season.

Highlands advances to the state tournament in Danville on Tuesday, Oct. 21 against Boyle County with a kick set to 7 p.m., continuing their postseason run after back-to-back shutout victories in regional play.
