Players in red shirts reading “October Baseball” celebrate as champagne rains from above. The Cincinnati Reds are officially back in the playoffs for the first time since 2020. The last time they made an appearance in the postseason, they were swept by the Atlanta Braves in the Wild Card Series.
Towards the middle of the season, it was not looking like the Reds were going to be in contention for the playoffs, but after a winning streak they put themselves in position to succeed. The Reds won 8 of their last 11 games heading into the series with the Milwaukee Brewers.
As the Reds continued to climb back into consideration for the last wild card spot, their season came down to game 162. Despite their loss against the Brewers, the Reds clinched the playoffs after the New York Mets fell 0-4 to the Miami Marlins. Since the Reds had the series tiebreaker against the Mets, their loss secured the Reds’ ticket to the postseason.
The Reds are set to face the third seed, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in LA tonight at 9 p.m. Hunter Greene is expected to pitch today with the normal fielders to back him up. This will be a three game series and the Reds have a chance to advance to the second round for the first time since 1995 when they defeated the Dodgers.
Could they repeat history and rewrite their destiny?
