On August 15th Highlands High School announced the new people for the Hall of Fame who showed either leadership and or sportsmanship in their graduating class. They valued their achievements of varsity letters, participation, and commitment to their sports or school programs over their high school career. Burke Barlow, who earned 8 varsity letters for basketball and golf, showed all sportsmanship and leadership to earn his spot.
Barlow states “Who would have known I would be in this spot years back for being a good leader in the sports I love. I feel special in many ways because of the Highlands.”
Some of these Hall of Fame participants still associate themselves with Highlands. Either by teaching, donating, and helping out around school events. These alumni are highly grateful for Highlands by teaching them their responsibilities on a team or individual bases. Nina Kearns, a teacher and former girls soccer coach, won 2 national titles of coach of the year. She earned a spot in the Hall of Fame due to her courageous acts of helping players succeed.
Kearns states “Being with the Highlands program makes me smile each day by cheering me on when I get recognized for the Hall of Fame. I have so much gratitude and can’t wait to see what the future holds for Highlands and especially for the soccer team.”
They are excited to be one of the many faces that represent a National Blue Ribbon School for their many achievements. Looking forward to the future of Highlands and especially themselves. They are going to continue to be great influences showing all their leadership work to the now and new generations.
