The bowling team practices every Monday and Thursday. Their competitions are set up with selected bowlers going against other schools’ selected bowlers. After they’re done, they take each team’s composite score. Lastly, they take their best bowler for each team to compete, and the overall winner is selected from that.
The team’s schedule this year includes 12 home matchups at Bellewood and four away. Simon Kenton is the team’s biggest competitor.
“We are in probably one of the most competitive regions in the state when it comes to bowling. All of the teams in our region are very good and have a solid lineup,” Coach Andy Eckerle said.
After losing a handful of seniors the previous year, the team is learning to work with a young roster for the upcoming season. Over the years, the team has tended to attract many seniors to the sport, but this year was an exception.
“We spend the season teaching them; they may or may not pick it up, and then they graduate. With a move to a younger squad, we have an opportunity to develop better bowlers over an extended period of time,” Eckerle said.
Jack Buecker (10) is said to be the season’s breakout player. He prepares by practicing with the team and on his own. His goal for the season is to average 175.
“I want to continue to improve throughout the season,” Buecker said.
Raegan Higgins (10) is said to be the strongest player of the season. She is spending time preparing by practicing and taking every opportunity to bowl in games, and her goal for the season is to average 150.
“I’m most confident in our team,” Higgins said.
The teams’ next match-up is against Simon Kenton High School at Bellewood on Thursday, November 21, at 3:35 pm.
