On Thursday, September 26, the boys’ soccer team faced off against the Simon Kenton Pioneers in an important senior night game.
Senior activities started at 7:15, where the team recognized 11 seniors: Sam Lang, Ashton Pawlak, Harrison Gamble, Ethan Schweitzer, Joe Subach, Craig Miller, Evan Wallace, Sam Arnold, John Exterkamp, Logan Nickleman, and Owen Yelton.
The game started at 7:45, with Schweitzer kicking off for the Birds. This was a special moment, with Schweitzer having been out since the beginning of the season due to a leg injury.
The game started slow, with a score of 0-0 for the first half. In the second half, the Birds came out with a newfound intensity and a hope of keeping their winning streak alive.
Gamble started the second half off strong with the first goal of the game with an assist from Nick Wilson (11) with 23 minutes left.
Luis McVicker (11) then followed with a goal immediately after, with 22 minutes left.
“One big moment in the second half was when Harry (Gamble) scored, and we went wild. It was crazy, 2 minutes after we scored and it was the best goal I’ve seen from Luis,” said Kiefer Sower (9).
The Birds didn’t let in any goals and won with a final score of 2-0.
Their record is now 5-3-3.
Their next game is Tuesday, October 1 vs. Campbell County at Campbell County High School.
