Last Friday, the Birds beat the Raceland Rams 35-0, making a comeback win after last week’s loss to Ryle.
Offensively, Highlands rushed for 71 yards while allowing 84, and passed for 94 yards, giving up 156.
Quarterback Rio Litmer (11) completed 8 of 11 passes for 85 yards and threw 2 touchdowns. Backup QB Cale Harris (10) added 2 completions on 3 attempts for 9 yards.
On the ground, Adam Surrey (12) led the rushing attack with 34 yards on 4 carries, followed by Issac Niemann (11), who gained 20 yards on 4 attempts.
Jackson Arnold (12) led the receiving corps with 3 catches for 37 yards, while Surrey contributed 23 yards on 2 receptions.
Scoring was spread across the team: Niemann and Tayden Lorenzen (10) each ran for a touchdown, while Surrey and Arnold caught touchdown passes. Ethan Grimm (12) scored on a kickoff return, and Logan Nickelman (12) added 5 extra points.
Defensively, Peyton Klosterman (11) recovered a fumble. TJ Hicks led the team with 13 tackles (7 solo, 6 assisted), followed by Ryan Dunn with 7 tackles (2 solo, 5 assisted). The team totaled 66 tackles overall.
Gabe Williams (10) and Tyus McCarter (12) each had one interception.
Highlands is now 4-1 for the season and they’ll face Cooper at home this Friday at 7:00 pm.
