The Highlands Men’s Soccer Program is teaming up with “GO Pantry”, a nonprofit organization that provides food for hungry kids in NKY on days when schools are not open.
GO Pantry has been in service since 2012 and about 1,200 kids in over 80 schools receive weekly food support.
“As a team, we wanted to give back to our community that has supported us. What better way to give back than to make sure no child in our community goes hungry,” said Head Varsity Boys’ Soccer Coach Sulli Kayed.
The team is taking food donations, such as fruit cups, applesauce cups, microwaveable meals, pop tarts, on-the-go snacks/meals, and money donations.
The team will be at different Highlands sporting events such as the girls’ soccer game vs. Campbell County on September 16 at Northern Kentucky University, the football game vs. Raceland on September 20, the men’s soccer senior night on September 26, the football game vs. Cooper on September 27, the volleyball game vs. Lloyd on October 3, the football game on October 4 vs. Dixie, and volleyball senior night on October 8.
Even though the team will stop taking donations after October 8 they hope to stay involved with the program in the years to come.
“By launching this community service project, we are able to make an impact on the community around us. Some things are bigger than soccer. Caring for our community and giving back is something we value here at Highlands and it’s a tradition we aim to continue for years to come,” said Sam Lang (12).
