The Cake Classic was hosted at Highlands High School as well as Highlands Middle School and Moyer Elementary. The event took place from Sept. 13-14. But what is the Cake Classic?
Cake Classic is a tournament hosted by the Highlands volleyball team.
“It is the Highlands volleyball home tournament that we host every year, where a bunch of schools just come together and we play against each other,” said Lyla Bottom (12).
Highlands competed well in the tournament with only one loss.
The varsity team played the Conner Cougars which has set a great tone for the rest of the season.
Commenting on this game, Alexis Steinhauser (9) said: “There was one game where we could’ve, I feel like, gotten along better. I feel like we just weren’t playing as a team.”
Even with this temporary setback, Highlands pulled through, winning the silver bracket.
The Cake Classic volleyball tournament issused as more than just a tournament. As fun as it is to compete in tournaments, the Cake Classic also works to raise money through concessions and ticket sales. “All proceeds go to the volleyball program to help raise money for equipment and team uniforms,” said Ellie Mohr (12).
This weekend the junior varsity volleyball program will be hosting Cupcake Classic in continuation this tournament.
