The senior night game was all about the two seniors on the team in senior Bailey Markus and Michelle Barth. They played one of their district opponents, Newport Central Catholic who has a record of 2-4.
To lead off the game, pitcher sophomore Kaitlyn Dixon punched out the side with three strikeouts and no hits in the first inning. To lead off the hitting Markus ended up reaching base three time with three plate appearances. Two singles and a double with three runs and one RBI. Barth would back this up with reaching base two times with two plate appearances getting a double and a single with four RBI’s. With the help of the rest of the team the team would put up 15 in the first making the score 15-0 going into the second.
Dixon would continue striking out the side into the top of the second bring her stats to six strikeouts and no hits. The Birds would put on three more runs in the bottom of the second and bring the score to 18-0. To start the top of the third Markus comes into pitch. She ended up striking out the side with three strikeout and no hits. After this they would call mercy rule ending the game with a Highlands win and a combined no hitter from Dixon and Markus.
Their next game is tonight against Johnson Central.
