On Wednesday, the Highlands High School boys’ basketball team will play in the 9th Region quarter-finals against Cooper High School. This past Friday, Highlands finished as the runner-up in the 36th District Tournament Finals, losing to Newport High School 72 – 61.

“I feel like we played our hearts out, and the atmosphere was awesome. We just couldn’t get the win and stop them in key moments when we needed a stop,” said Junior Brody Benke.

This season, the Highlands varsity basketball team finished with a 21-8 overall. In the 21-22 season, Highlands was 22-9 overall and lost against Lloyd High School in the tournament on March 5, 2022.

Going into the 9th Region Quarter Finals after a loss is definitely not ideal for the team, but it’s only up from here.

“We just have to put the loss behind us. Our main goal is still right in front of us.” expresses Senior Seth Ryan

The Highlands basketball team has been practicing and training around the clock.

Senior Will Herald stated, “As a team we have had to reshape our play style with the recent injury of Brayden Moeves. Simply just asking a little more from both our starts and subs. As an individual, I know they are going to face-guard me. I have focused on primarily looking for screens and moving around the court more.”
