Buzzing into a successful year: With the academic team
On October 11th, 2022, our HHS Academic team competed in a home match against Dixie Highschool. Before the match began, some participants expressed their feelings. The match started with students Jack Wilson, Henry Campbell, and Lela Grillot at the table, and Hamish Reigner as their captain.
Near the beginning of the match, both teams held a tie of 5:5 for 7 questions straight, until finally, Lela Grillot broke the tie. This was all it took for the team to start gaining point after point and maintaining a score that was almost double Dixie’s. The team showed constant sportsmanship and worked efficiently as a team. During Bonus questions, teammates made sure that everyone agreed on one answer before submitting it. At the end of the first half, Highlands was in the lead by 16:9.
At the beginning of the second half, a substitution was made. Brandon Huhn replaced Lela Grillot. There was little to no frustration during the match, and Highlands continued to rack up points. At the end of the game, Highlands had won 33:20.
Henry Campbell expressed “I think we did well today. There were a few questions I got frustrated that I did not get, but overall I think we’re going to have a great season this year.”
Off to a good start, and the Academic team is excited about the upcoming season.
