As the game started Junior Kennedy Baioni was pitching, Sophomore Michelle Barth was catching, Junior Eleanor Todd was playing first, 8th grader Morgan Pompilio was playing 2nd, Senior Anna Greenwell playing short-stop, and Junior Carly Cramer playing third base. In the outfield, Senior Hailey Parks playing right field, Sophomore Bailey Markus playing center field, and Eighth-Grader Peyton Brown playing left field.
The game started out with Harrison County playing hard and Highlands falling short. At the end of the first inning, the score was 1-0 Harrison County. When the Birds were up to hit they just couldn’t get one.
The next inning was basically the same except Harrison County scored 2 runs. The Birds’ defense wasn’t doing well. There were 2 outs and catcher Michelle Barth threw down to second and they called her safe, and the Highlands parents were not happy.
The third inning is where Highlands started to come back. Their defense was doing better and Harrison County started to fall. Junior Kennedy Baioni hit her first home run of the season. Highlands was down only by 2 now.
In the fourth inning, the score didn’t change.
In the fifth inning, Eighth-Grader Morgan Pompillo was up to bat and hit a really good bunt that made the bases get moved around. This made the score 2-3. Carly Cramer was up and she hit a line drive right down the foul line. This made Pompillo go home and the score was tied 3-3.
In the sixth inning, Highlands’ defense came out strong. Baioni was striking out people with her rise ball and changeup. Harrison County didn’t score at all this inning. When Highlands came up to bat they scored 2 runs and were up 4-3.
Sophomore Michelle Barth expects a lot out of the team this season.
“I expect a lot out of our team this season being a captain. I want the girls to realize their own strengths. We have a lot of potentials to be good this season, but there is always work to be done.”
At the end of the game, Highlands won 4-3.
Their next game is tonight against Campbell County at 5.
