Cross country teams place second at Regionals and prepare for State
On October 24, both the boys and girls Highlands cross country teams placed second in the KHSAA AA Regional Championships. The teams had an overall score of 49 points with an average time of 17:33, with the fastest time for girls being 18:51.08 and 15:44.09 for the boys.
Senior Maggie Schroeder placed first for girls with a time of 18:51.09. Following behind was eighth grader Adrienne Harris, placing eighth with an overall time of 20:42.70. Senior Kayma Wolfinbarger placed ninth with a time of 20:44.35.
“I only have one more race this season and I hope to run a time similar to the time I ran at region,” said Schroeder.
Senior Peter Laskey placed fifth in the region with an overall time of 15:15.57, followed closely by senior Will Griffith who placed eighth with a time of 17:19.55. Behind him was freshman Malcolm Robertson who took 11th place in the region, his time being 17:35.66.
This was one of the last races for Laskey and the rest of the seniors on the team, so they’re working hard to prepare for their next meet, State.
“I am super excited for the state meet. I think the team is very prepared, and I think it will be a good meet,” said Laskey.
These second place finishes put the Highlands cross country teams on the road to the state meet, which will be this Friday, October 30. The boys will run at 4:00 P.M. and the girls will run at 5:00 P.M., after which they’ll head home for senior night. We wish the Birds the best of luck at State!
