As the leaves begin to fall and the air gets colder, Kings Island turns into the ultimate hangout place for those who love Halloween and scary things. While the haunted houses may be gross, the food is quite the opposite. We got to try a plethora of different spooky themed treats to answer the question: what is worth people’s money?
Starting with the Tricks and Treat food truck items, we got the Evil Step Twins Siders which are two burgers with pepper, pickled jalapeno, fried onions and garlic. If guests own a meal plan they can purchase it with that. We would not recommend this to anyone, however. Especially those who don’t love spicy food. It’s extremely messy to eat while walking around, and when people get scared the last thing they want is a burger on them. On the contrary if guests do enjoy spicy food–this may be one to try. The price is $12.99, which is reasonable for theme park food.
The Tricks and Treats Food Truck also offered a dish called Mounds of Meatwhich, which is also included in the dining plan. It’s a sandwich that comes with shaved beef, BBQ, pepper relish, and chips. Similar to the sliders, it can be quite messy to eat when walking around the park. However, for guests who enjoy a milder taste this may be for them. Overall though we would recommend not spending money on this if guests don’t have a meal plan–the $14 dollar price is not worth it compared to the cheaper dining options.
The final item offered at the Haunt food truck is Missing Fingers. Besides the funny name, it was our favorite non-dessert item. With the price of $9.99 guests get three fried pepper jack cheese sticks dusted in hot cheetos and with a side of spicy marinara. Neither of us are big on spice, however the flavor was so unique and delicious we ended up enjoying it. This snack is easy to share with friends and quick to eat, making it the perfect theme park snack.
Moving on to desserts, the first one we knew we had to try was the pumpkin spice cotton candy. It sounds gross at first, but trust us, it was delicious. The cotton candy somehow made the usual pumpkin spice flavor light and sweet. At the low cost of $2.99, this is a must-try when going to the Haunt. Plus it’s on a stick, which makes it great for walking around.
The Undertaker Trifle is a layered chocolate cake with mousse and covered in oreos as the “dirt”. On top of the oreos there’s gummy worms and a tombstone cookie making it the perfect spooky treat. The price of $8.99 is considered to be too much for some guests, which is why we recommend getting this treat if you like oreos or gummy candy. However, similar to the other items on this list, it can get messy while trying to walk around with it.
We absolutely love cheesecake so we were really excited to try the Spiderweb Cheesecake. It’s cookies and cream flavored with white chocolate icing. It costs $8.49 and because of its lack of intricate toppings, we found it’s much easier to walk around the park with. Overall this was our favorite dessert we tried and is definitely worth the money.
The final thing we tried may sound gross, but surprisingly worked: wings covered in blueberry BBQ sauce. In theory it’s something many haven’t even thought of together, yet it somehow works. The contrast between the crispy wings and distinct taste of blueberry is extremely unexpected. With the cost of $12.49, this item is definitely worth a try due to its novelty.
The food Kings Island offers for the Haunt is underrated, so we wanted to provide some insight on what they have to offer. From fun themed desserts to savory burgers–Kings Island has it all during the Haunt season.
