The social media app, Snapchat, introduced a new option in their app. On February 27th, the head office released “MY Al”, which is an artificial intelligence that uses the same technology that powers ChatGPT. Initially, it was supposed to be available to Snapchat+ users, however, by April 19th, Al bot became accessible to everybody who has an account with the app. Nearly two million messages have been exchanged between users and the chatbot 2 days after the release.

The opinions about this new update were divided by the users. There are a lot of people who love an idea, they think that Al makes the future closer than it was ever before. However, there are many people who are against it. Especially, teen parents are especially not happy about it, as Al can easily replace many friends in their kids’ lives.

Another concern among users is that they are unable to easily remove the AI bot from their chat feed. Now, all customers can chat with their own artificial intelligence, which is placed on the top of their chat list in the app. Unfortunately, to delete the bot, they must be subscribed to Snapchat+, which costs $3.99 a month.

Snapchat head office in Santa Monica, CA said they do their best to protect their customers. According to Snapchat, “My AI ” is “far from perfect,” but the app creators are working to make the feature safe for all users. One of the improvements that are being done is adding moderation technology to conform to the app’s community guidelines and adding an aging signal so the AI can generate responses that won’t be harmful considering the user’s age.
