Seniors Hamish Rayner and Leila Grillot are making their way to the State Championships.

The Highlands Highschool (HHS) academic team has had an incredible year. As the season comes to an end, they are excited to announce that they have two students going to the State Championship.

The Quick Recall team and the Future Problem Solving team both worked very hard all year, but came up slightly short in regionals, both scoring third place. Unfortunately, only the top two teams go on to state.

However, when faced with individual testing, two students scored above and beyond. Seniors Leila Grillot and Hamish Rayner have been working hard, and are now making their way to the top. Leila Grillot is going to state in composition. This is only their second year on the HHS academic team and they are ecstatic.

“I went to state in composition last year”, they explained, “So I sort of know what to expect, but it’s still intimidating.” Despite this, Leila is doing the best they can to prepare for State.

Hamish Rayner is going to be testing in social studies. This is his fourth year on the academic team. It is his first time going to State, and he is feeling the pressure.

“I’m excited, though”, he said, “I think I’ll be happy with how I score. I’ve worked really hard.”

In addition to this, the HHS academic team had some honorable mentions:
Cooper Alerding scored 7th in Arts & Humanities.
Jack Wilson scored 8th in both Math and Language Arts.
Warren Deaton scored 9th in Social Studies and 10th in Science.

All in all, the team did great work this year, and Coach Robin Kemp is incredibly proud of them.
