Voices in the hall: How did the first week of school go?

On Wednesday, August 17, Highlands High School started the 2022-2023 school year. We asked students, teachers, and staff how they felt the first week went.

Highlands Athletic Director Wes Caldwell: “It was great, it was nice to see all the fresh new faces and see how everyone’s summer was.”

Highlands Art Teacher Andrew Eckerle: “It was really successful. I feel the students have been more engaged since the last couple of years because of COVID, and it feels more energetic around campus.”

Freshman Sophia Caballero: “I think at first I was really nervous because I wasn’t used to such a big public school but as it went on I was more comfortable.”

Sophomore Felicity Berling: “It was exhausting but other than that it was good since I knew where all my classes were.”

Sophomore Somfe Nzekwu: “It’s been a long week and I’m still trying to get back in the rhythm of things, but when I do that I think it’ll be less overwhelming.”
