November 3 marks end of voting in 2020 election

     November 3 ended the voting that’s been happening since October 13. For voters in Fort Thomas, Kentucky  (KY), the ballot included those running for president, one of KY’s senate spots, Fort Thomas city council, and Fort Thomas Independent Schools’ school board.

     Ex-Vice President Joseph R. Biden is leading ​President Donald J. Trump in both popular and electoral votes as of now. Mr. Biden has about 2.5 million more votes than Mr. Trump and is leading in the electoral vote as well, 238 to 213. This, however, does not guarantee Mr. Biden’s victory. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many ballots, both from in-person and mail-in ballots, are yet to be counted. 

     “[The election results] could take a few days [or] a few weeks, just be patient and let the process roll out. That’s how we roll in the United States, we make sure that all the votes are counted,” said government teacher Micheal Hills.

     Democrat Amy McGrath and Republican Mitch McConnell fought for the position of Kentucky senator and McConnell won. He has been in office for 36 years and this win will solidify him another six years as senate majority leader. 

     Jeff Bezold, Adam Blau, Ken Bowman, Mark Cook, Connie Grubbs, Lisa Kelly, Carla Landon, Benjamin Pendery, Roger Peterman, and Matthew Jared Reed all ran for city council. The six that made the chairs were Bezold, Blau, Pendery, Kelly, Grubbs, and Bowman.

     Jeff Beach, Karen Utz Allen, Julie Hewett Kuhnhein ran for the spots on the Fort Thomas Independent Schools’ school board and Kuhnhein and Beach took the two spots.

 

November 9, 2020 Update

       On November 7, 2020, Democrat Joseph R. Biden beat Republican President Donald J. Trump in the 2020 presidential election with his win in Pennsylvania. According to the Associated Press, Mr. Biden now has 290 electoral votes while Mr. Trump has 214. Georgia and North Carolina are yet to be confirmed. 

       Mr. Biden stated, “I pledge to be a President who seeks not to divide, but to unify” on Twitter after he won. 

       Mr. Biden wants to expand health care, reform immigration, take stronger action on climate change, free college for American families who make under 125,000 a year, and so much more for the United States.
