Fans scream as the screen on stage opens to reveal a silhouette. The bass shakes the arena as a figure in a gold dress steps into the light and begins to sing. Her dress shines as she dazzles the audience with her vocals. At just 15 years old, Freya Skye is making rumbles in the music and performing industry.
Freya is an English singer, songwriter, and actress who has been writing and releasing music for the majority of her life. She released her first single, Lose My Head, in 2021 when she was just 12 years old. The next year she performed said song as the representative of the UK at Junior Eurovision 2022. Since that performance, Skye has been releasing music every year, her most recent release being Gold’s Gone.
Gold’s Gone is a nostalgic song about growing up and losing the “gold” moments from the past. Using lyrics like, ”Back of your mom’s car, trading bracelets” and “I feel the time is slipping and I already miss it,” Skye is able to connect with her audience about getting older and moving on. The song was released on April 11, and already has almost 4 million streams on Spotify.
Another notable song she released in early 2025 is Who I Thought I Knew, a beautiful lyrical piece about missing the idea of someone and the feeling that someone wasn’t cared for. It is unclear who the song is about, but Skye channels the emotions of the words in a way to make listeners feel for her.
Skye has also recently made her acting debut in Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires as Nova Bright, a daywalker with powers from the sun who must decide if she will follow in her fathers footsteps or make her own path. Nova is a strong character who takes the audience through her journey of saving her people while having to work with her previous enemies.
A few weeks after the movie was released it was announced that Skye, her costars, Malachi Barton and Mekonnen Knife, and actors from the Descendants: Rise of Red movie were going to be touring the country on the Zombies and Descendants Worlds Collide Tour. The tour has had over 40 shows with only two remaining. The show features songs from both movie franchises as well as original songs from the performers.
Skye is featured in multiple songs from the movies on the setlist, along with Gold’s Gone. She also performs Gold’s Gone and her solo, My Own Way from the movie, in the second act of the show. Skye also performed two duets with Barton, one of which involves them walking through the crowd to a mix stage. The connection between the two performers draws more attention to the tour and allows them to engage the audience throughout the show.
With the tour coming to a close, Skye is expected to return back to writing music while the next Zombies movie is still in the works. Her success on screen and on stage has allowed her more opportunities to improve in the industry overall.
