The Highlands High School theater program has been notorious for its impressive and well-thought-out shows for years, and with every performance they seem to get even better. This year’s choice was the former Broadway musical Spongebob Squarepants, and to me, it might have been the best I have seen during my time at Highlands.
The set for Spongebob was extremely well thought out, and everyone working on it made sure to make it appealing and interactive for the audience.
The familiar color scheme and props from the show were perfectly executed to create a fun and exciting backdrop for all of the actors to perform in front of. Overall, the set and props for this show were the perfect balance of originality from Highlands and the lighthearted feel of the show.
Along with the set and props, the costumes were also very impressive and highlighted each character’s personality well. The costumes in this year’s production took creative liberties to make it their own, yet still highlight the classic feel of the original show. The costumes that were shown added the perfect amount of creativity and authenticity to each of the actors’ talents.
During Spongebob, the costumes and set weren’t the only things I noticed. The sound effects, and lights that made the actor or actress stand out caught my eye. Students in charge of the sound booth, and lighting took it to the top with their efforts making every sound and spotlight intentional and perfectly timed.
I am so glad I got the chance to stop by and watch the Spongebob Musical at Highlands High School. It was one of my favorites of all time because of the amazing set, costumes, humor, and effort put forth to produce yet another wonderful performance.
