As festival season kicks into gear, the air is filled with music excitement, and a sense of community.
One unexpected element plays a role: candles.
What started as a candle business in Fort Thomas that unfortunately had to close down has turned into going to a festival to sell Star Hoeh’s beloved candles.
For Hoeh, the festival circuit is not just about selling wax creations, but also about crafting an atmosphere, igniting senses, and adding a touch of magic to the event.
Hoeh had a candle business in Fort Thomas named Star Centots Boutique, but had to close down after not getting enough business. However, she does not want to give up on it and is attending festivals to keep her love for candle making going.
“I’ve always loved candles, always had them burning, and wanted to have a fun shop. When I had the shop I liked the idea of people being able to make their own candles,” said Hoeh.
Hoeh has a love for candles and candle making and wants other people to be inspired by her work. She wants to be able to bring candle-making to festivals.
Some of the money that is made goes to the animals and their food and enjoyment of the farm. It also helps with the health of animals and keeping them safe.
“Their food, their hay, their bedding, any kind of medications they need, any emergencies to keep the barns steady, keep heat during winter, the bills keep everything warm and safe and healthy for the animals,” said Lindsay Arden.
Hoeh uses eco-friendly materials in order to make her candles.
“They are 100% soy and the wicks are 100% cotton, so it’s a better burn for the Earth,” Hoeh said.
In order to attract customers, Hoeh sets up her booth to make it smell good and be visually appealing.
“I make the booth pretty and smell good. In order to do that, I put the candles on a rack so that I can put them up at once and I put tags on the candles so that they know what scent and what I named the candle,” Hoeh said.
Star learned new things about setting up her booth, like bringing more materials she did not have previously.
“Make sure you have enough tables for your inventory, because I didn’t the last time so I had to improvise,” said Hoeh.
Hoeh loves candle making and according to her, it is hard for her to pick just one thing that is her favorite. She has a love for candles, so her being able to participate in festivals and other activities similar to this makes her feel delighted.
