Last week, Fort Thomas School Board Member, Ann Meyer, announced her departure from the Board of Education on August 8, 2024. On this day, she was honored by Brian Robinson, FTIS Superintendent, as well as fellow board members and family.
Julie Kuhnhein, current vice chair member of the board, will be stepping in to replace Meyer (chair) as they find an additional member to fill the current gap Meyer has left.
However, despite excitement for her new title on the board, Kuhnhein feels tremendous sadness for the loss of her fellow board member as well as mentor and friend.
“I will miss working with Ann on the board, I have known her for many years since we both worked together at Highlands in the early 2000s… I considered her to be a great role model as a new board member four years ago.”
Kuhnhein continues: “I am excited to serve as the board chair and certainly have big shoes to fill following Ann’s service. I know this board, with an appointed member – and new elected members come November – will do what all FTIS boards have done in the past, continue to build a district rich in tradition and focused on the future.”
According to Mitchell Meyer, son and new special education teacher at HHS, his mom brought specific knowledge to the school board given her upbringing in the Fort Thomas community as well as her extensive time teaching at HHS as a guidance counselor before serving on the Board of Education in 2018.
“She brought a passion to this community, and loves HHS and Fort Thomas.”
Fellow board member, Jeff Beach, agrees with the unique characteristics Meyers brought to the Board. “Ann was great to work with and a real leader on the board. It will take all of us and more to replace her leadership and passion for the cause,” said Beach.
