After more than 40 years of keeping the traffic around Fort Thomas at a safe flow, FTIS crossing guard, Judy Kiskaden, has decided to retire.
“It was a hard decision and she is grateful for getting to do the job for over 40 years,” says Gina Schneider, Judy’s daughter, in a Facebook post.
Judy first started working as a custodian at Moyer Elementary School in 1982. It wasn’t until John Hill, of the Fort Thomas police department, asked Judy if she wanted to learn how to direct traffic at intersections that Judy got the job.
“I really enjoyed it. So by 1983, I was directing traffic at the intersection at Highland and North Fort Thomas Avenue and I’ve been there ever since,” says Kiskaden.
Many students have had interactions with Judy, whether it was in the car or crossing the street.
“Judy was a fantastic crossing guard. She worked diligently every day to keep us safe, without a whole lot of thanks. I passed her every morning and she would always give me a friendly hello as I passed. I can’t state enough how appreciative I am for the years of service she has done for us,” says junior Samuel Gillen.
Making sure students and kids got safely to and from school was her priority for 4 decades. The entire community is thankful for Judy’s help throughout the years.
“I’ve enjoyed the job for all these years and have met so many people. The community support has been wonderful and I will miss everyone,” says Judy.
