Highxicon Week 4(ish!)

Dear Students of Highlands High School,

It has come to my attention that the Highxicon has recently been quiet. Muted. Unspeaking, voiceless and wordless. And, with my deepest regrets, I’ll say I’m sorry. I’m sorry for the silence and the hasty closure of this… Highlands inspired slang.

Why has the Highxicon gone silent? I should be in the know, being the author and all, however I’ve emerged empty when seeking an explicit elucidation. All I can figure from this… disappearance… is a loss of words.

Literally.

Coming up with new snippets of English dialect on a weekly basis was grueling, especially to be seen as both creative and relatable.

But, I will now reemerge, and continue to push a pencil (click a keyboard!?) to add new words to the Highxicon~ just not, perhaps, on a weekly basis.

Sincerely,

Maggie Schroeder

Okay, okay, so on a less silly note, the Highxicon will be coming back. I’ll be aiming to add words around every two weeks. However, if I get enough of a positive response (aka people actually suggest words) I will bring back the weekly edition!

So, without further ado, here is the newest set of words within the Highlands Highxicon!

Oh, oh, oh! One more thing, if you’re a bit confused on exactly what this is and would like some Highxicon history, check the link right there -> https://hhsjournalism.com/entertainment/2018/11/12/welcoming-the-highxicon-the-sniglets-of-highlands/

  1. Profesnore (noun) – a teacher whose class is boring enough to make students fall asleep

My profesnore’s lectures went on so long that I began to doze off.

Professor (any instructor, especially in a specialized field) + snore (a snorting or grunting sound in a person’s breathing while asleep) = Profesnore

  1. Adieumoji (noun) – any single emoji or emoticon sent to respond to a text message such as “k” because someone feels that it would be rude to not respond yet has no idea what to say

Every time my crush texts “bye” I always make sure to end the conversation with a cute adieumoji.

Adieu (an expression of good wishes when someone leaves) + Emoji (any of various small images, symbols, or icons used in text fields in electronic communication) = Adieumoji

  1. Drilinquent (noun) – a person who began driving way before they got their Learner’s Permit; a driver who has their learners and drives by themselves all the time

The 15-year-old drilinquent was cruising down I-75, hoping to avoid the gaze of any cops.

Driver (a person who drives a vehicle) + Delinquent (a young person showing or characterized by a tendency to commit crime) = Drilinquent

  1. Testressed (adjective) – the feeling of eternal dread that occurs walking into a classroom where you forgot you had test or quiz that day

When the girl walked into chemistry and heard her classmates talking about the assessment she forgot was that day, she became testressed.

Test (a written or spoken examination of a person’s proficiency or knowledge) + Stressed (a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances) = Testressed

  1. Hallull (verb) – the act of leaving a class for “a restroom break” but actually just chilling in the bathroom or hallway because of an overly boring class

I spent a lot of time hullulling around the school during math class since I already understood the material.

Hall (an area in a building onto which rooms open; a corridor) + Lull (calm or send to sleep) = Hallull

I hope you enjoyed this edition of the Highxicon. If you’d like to suggest any future words (please do!) just drop the word and definition in the comments and could be featured in a future edition of the Highxicon.
