There is nothing more exciting than knowing that there’s a whole world waiting outside of high school years. For Highlands Bluebird seniors, this is a big step into life’s biggest challenge: adulthood. They have been working hard on applying to their life’s next step in education: college.
For many, the first step to getting started with the college process is applying to FAFSA. FAFSA is a government program that helps aid students with college funding. It helps students to apply for federal grants, and loans, all within this one application. This can also be what helps cover the pricing of books, food, supplies, transportation, housing, and much more.
It’s interesting to find out where this year’s seniors have applied to, which schools accepted them, and what they have decided to major in. However, some seniors have decided to take another route, completely taking their lives and studies elsewhere.
“I don’t know what college I’m going to but I’m looking forward to studying abroad,” Lily Arnberg (12) said.
Studying abroad is a pathway that allows students to experience education in another country, perhaps experiencing new cultures and being able to explore and travel while also being in school.
“I’m going to the University of Kentucky and I’m really looking forward to meeting new people and participating in new experiences outside of just the Highlands community,” Annelle Scully (12) said.
Both are great schools, with Northern Kentucky University being known for their student-centered education, and University of Kentucky for good quality education.
There are also many students that are exceptional athletes with sports offers and scholarships.
“Start researching colleges as soon as possible, and don’t stress yourself and take six AP classes,” Arnberg said.
Regardless of what each Highlands High School senior chooses to take the journey to, whether that be college, a gap year, studying abroad, or even starting a business, Highlands High school wishes them lots of luck for the upcoming futures and careers ahead.
