Alyona Greene, an English Language Learner (ELL) teacher at Highlands High School and Middle School, is a one of a kind teacher known for her amazing energy, warmth and deep care for her students. From her dynamic classroom environment to her approach to peer tutoring, Greene creates an atmosphere where learning is not just about academics, but connecting with each student on a personal level.
Peer tutoring with Greene is an engaging and energizing experience. Her classroom isn’t your traditional classroom setting, it’s filled with enthusiasm and a genuine investment in students’ success.
“Peer tutoring with Mrs.Greene is different from being in a class with a normal teacher. She just brings so much energy into the classroom and she cares about all of her students. It is easy working with her because she’s always in a good mood,” Greene’s son Ashton Greene (12) said.
“She is always trying to get everyone involved, and she’s always there when someone needs her,” Ivy Deleon (12) said.
Greene’s personality is at the heart of her teaching style. Her students describe her as someone who is always smiling and full of energy. Her vibrant personality and playful nature shine through in everything she does, whether she uses voices, dances, or making lessons more engaging.
This approach, especially for those learning the English language, helps students connect with the material, building both understanding and excitement for what’s to come.
Greene knows that building a strong relationship with her students is key to creating a classroom environment based on trust and mutual respect.
“Trust comes before kindness,” Greene said.
Through her teaching, she ensures that her students feel supported and safe where they can share their feelings and thoughts without judgment or without the pressure of right or wrong answers.
Greene’s impact goes beyond academics. She creates an environment where students can grow both academically and personally
“I tell everybody that my class is not a competition. It’s about self exploration,” Greene said.
