Highlands theater is kicking this year off with the fall play “Peter and the Starcatcher” this play is a prequel to Peter Pan. This show will be submitted to the Cappies Critic Team. Cappies is a regional program for 17 schools around the Cincinnati area. Cappies critics, a team of judges both students and teachers, come into schools and watch each other’s shows, then around the end of April the nominations for an award show in the early summer are announced.
The play “Peter and the Starcatcher” follows Boy and Molly through their journey on the Neverland ship as they attempt to make their way to the Kingdom of the Rundoon. Peter experiences dramatic character growth throughout the show.
“I’m most excited about portraying his arc, because I feel like he goes through a lot of development during the show.” Henry Weghorst (11) said.
Cast or crew, figuring out the correct combinations of people to make a fun and fluid environment that is productive for everyone to work in.This is something that director Clarie LaNicca must consider when deciding the roles for crew and cast.
“I’m really excited..few like surprise shifts that happened in the audition process…my favorite part about it is like it could out this way…”Claire LaNicca the Highlands theater director said.
As this is our Cappies show for the school year,, some members of the production will be taking different routes to make sure the show runs smoothly. Along with submitting a show to the Cappies critic team you also need to submit a series of questions, followed by a table of examples of what was done throughout the show.
“[The] amount of effort and attention you put into a production [is] really …important in any show but especially the Cappies show…” Piper Lang (10), the actress portraying Molly said.
Along with members of the production taking different steps in the show that they might not have in the past there are also a ton of new theater participants freshman and not. There are 24 people on cast and 46 on crew.
“I am feeling pretty confident going into my first high school show and I’m most excited about meeting new people…,” Myles Lovell(9), a member of ensemble said
Peter and the Starcatcher will be showing the first week of November and thus the cast and crew must work diligently to make this show spectacular for the audience. Highlands puts a lot of effort into the theater department and everyone involved works hard to put it to use.
“On props we do a lot of work in preparation for each show…we also refurbish a lot of old props to make new ones” Hannah Nieporte (12), the head of props said.
