Nest Fest is a day for freshmen to meet their soon-to-be high school peers. Upperclassmen mentors are assigned color groups to match their students’ advisory; these kids will be together in a class for the rest of their high school time. They greet the incoming freshman with colored bracelets and shirts. It’s a clever way for students of all grades to get to know each other through games and easy activities.
One activity in particular is where a mentor is stationed in a certain classroom, and kids go from class to class on their schedule, getting a stamp from each mentor as they go through their day from 1st to 6th period. Later in the day, students gear up for Friday nights in the Ozone bleachers by proudly chanting favorite past cheers, as well as new songs to be added to the list for future generations in the PAC, with mentors leading songs like “Hey Bluebirds, how do you feel?”
This day of Nest Fest makes it possible for freshman students to ease the stressors and burdens of a big high school transition, while also adding some playfulness and an unbelievable amount of hype and excitement to be a Bluebird.
