The American Red Cross community is dedicated to helping people in need. They strive for community, selflessness, and lifesaving work. The organization provides humanitarian aid and resources for natural disasters.
The American Red Cross is known to be a natural disaster relief organization, and at Highlands, Red Cross Club opens up many different opportunities for students to be involved in such as Aid training and water training for elementary schoolers.
“We wanted to have a club that gave kids access to service hours and change that isn’t restricted to HS,” Red Cross president Morgan Davis (11) said.
The Red Cross Club leaves open opportunities for students of all ages to experience new things and leave a mark on Highlands after they graduate.
“We would love to let kids have an impact and let them make a legacy for themselves of being an active community member,” Davis said.
Leaving a mark is very important to the club, having the members be active in the community is also important. They hold many events that involve and include different parts of the community.
These events are also very useful to use in daily life.
“A lot of the training we do is very useful, especially CPR and AID training as well as giving students a way to give back, ” Red Cross coordinator Kelsey Mitchell said.
The Red Cross has many different training sessions to improve important and useful skills. Some of which involve using the correct resources and learning how to email properly.
Beyond training, the club also offers scholarships to reward dedicated volunteers.
“The American Red Cross will be handing out two scholarships for engaged high school volunteers that have 2 years of experience with Red Cross,” Mitchell said.
Red Cross club is a very student friendly organization with numerous opportunities and beneficial skill development, experiences, and friendships.
“I love the people in it, the members and the community around it. The people the red cross attracts are I think the best people at highlands,” Davis said.
The Red Cross Club is a great place to meet new people and create friendships that will last a lifetime.
“We have around 80 people in the club and community so you will definitely leave with some new friends and new experiences,” Mitchell said.
Red Cross is one of the bigger clubs at Highlands, known for its strong sense of community and commitment to helping others. Whether students are interested in volunteering, learning life-saving skills, or just meeting like-minded people, there’s always something meaningful to get involved in.
“I just love being able to facilitate good and to facilitate change and being that positive in the community,” Davis said.
