Many are disappointed when friends and peers go on vacation for spring break while they stay in Fort Thomas, but they overlook the entertainment opportunities available right here at home. Fort Thomas and the surrounding areas offer an abundance of small businesses, parks, and restaurants that can make spring break enjoyable without the need to travel.
“I understand that even when my friends are out of town, people need time to do their own things. But in Fort Thomas, there are still so many things to do. Sometimes it’s good to also have alone time, especially after going to school and seeing people all year,” Anna Gilkerson (9) said.
Even without leaving Fort Thomas, students can still have a relaxing spring break. Local businesses like Tickle Pickle, Fort Thomas Coffee, and Midway are all great options for dining out with family and friends while getting out of the house. Going out can be a great opportunity to bond and connect, especially because these businesses offer excellent sweets, meals, and beverages.

During spring break, it can be difficult to find ways to leave the house when friends are away. Parks and bookshops are popular places for outings.
Walking pets, walking with others, or just taking a solo walk around a park or heading to a bookstore or restaurant are all great ways to spend time.
“I think that activities like going to the park, especially when the weather is getting warmer during spring break, are really nice. You can just walk around, take dogs out for walks, and visit small businesses like restaurants, cafes, and bookstores. These are great places to hang out with friends, get a coffee, and pick out a new book,” Gilkerson said.
According to robbreport.com, trips are also very expensive. An average spring break vacation costs around $8,000, and planning for a trip also takes a lot of work and time. Staying in Fort Thomas can be much more affordable and easier.
“Staying in Fort Thomas is obviously more affordable, and you can save a lot more money while not traveling. I’ve noticed that when people are busy with school and work, they tend to overlook what’s around them, so Spring Break is a chance to explore the town. Since students will be out of school, it’s an opportunity to discover all the things you can do, and visiting newer businesses can be really fun,” Gilkerson said.
