Lights flickered softly, casting a glow over the tables and walls. The whir of a machine blended with soft instrumental music fills the air with a sense of calm. At the Hidden Chapter’s recently opened cafe, customers can settle in, enjoy a nice drink, and relax in an inviting atmosphere.
The carefully chosen design elements can create a space that feels captivating and unique.
“When you walk into the cafe it feels like you have immediately been teleported to a different space. The design choices were immaculate,” Balou McFarland (9), a frequent visitor of the store, said.
Having a one of a kind space that welcomes guests is a must for this business, however Dave and Lacey Mulcahy started their store with a simple idea for their home.
“We’ve always been collectors of books and we didn’t have a shelf space for even half, so I built shelves that wrapped around the room and went to the ceiling and filled them with our book collection,” Dave Mulcahy said.
Their library offered them a sense of peace and relaxation that they want to share with others.
“We spent our mornings there drinking coffee and working, spent our evenings there as well having a drink before bed. We’d have discussions like we wish we could just do this forever and share this with people and this just be our life,” Dave Mulcahy said.
Even though it started out small, their ideas grew into serious consideration.
“So that’s what led to it, eventually those fun conversations turned into serious conversations, and just looking at the finances, and fast forward here we are,” Dave Mulcahy said.
With the addition of the cafe, people in Fort Thomas have been showing up to support the new business.
“A lot of the community members that are avid supporters of the small businesses, they made it a point to show up on day one,” Dave Mulcahy said.
The cafe has received a lot of support from those in the community that love the new addition.
“I absolutely love the addition of the cafe, it ties into the whole ambience and vibe of the bookstore seamlessly,” McFarland said.
