On December 12, 2024, Dominic Centralla and Alex Meacham visited Highlands High School to talk about suicide prevention.
The pair shared Dominic’s story of depression and isolation during COVID-19 due to him being in remote learning. The depression and isolation almost lead to the death of Dominic.
The main goal of the speech was to show students that they are not alone and that if they ever need to talk there is someone out there who they can talk to whether that be a friend, a family member, or a trusted adult.
Mr Listerman, who is a friend of Alex Meachams through basketball was one of the organizers of the talk . “…hopefully when other students face some of the same struggles they at least have a place where they can go ‘You know what I do have support, I have people who care about me and I don’t have to go into that dark space or I don’t have to stay there’ and that’s the hope whenever that happens,” Listerman said.
