The Blue-White scrimmage is an annual event that kicks off the football season at Highlands High School. All boys in the football program are split into blue and white teams to compete against each other. For this year’s OZONE theme, freshmen and juniors wore white, while sophomores and seniors wore blue.
This Blue-White Scrimmage is a good preview of the upcoming season for all students and community members in Fort Thomas, and serves as the final scrimmage before the regular season begins. Peyton Klosterman (11) said, “The Blue-White scrimmage is important for the community and to get our season started.”
Before the game, a ceremony celebrates seniors involved in fall sports and extracurricular activities, including football, cheer, band, cross country, soccer, and golf. Additionally, several Hall of Fame inductees are honored.
Senior Night is a very exciting time for seniors and their families. Walking across the field on senior night is something that a lot of seniors look forward to. Rudi Wilson (12) said, “My favorite part of the Blue-White scrimmage was senior night because I got to walk with my parents.”
The band performed to get the crowd excited while the cheer and dance teams showcased their routines. Lorenza Schweitzer (10) delivered an outstanding rendition of the national anthem before the game began.
Four touchdowns were scored during the game—three for the Blue team and one for the White team. The Blue team’s first touchdown came from Tayden Lorenzen (10) after catching a pass from Cale Harris (10). The second touchdown was a pick-six by Peyton Klosterman (11), and the third was another pass from Cale Harris (10) caught and run in by Issac Niemann (11). The White team’s only touchdown was a pick-six by Michael Tincher (10).
Overall, this was a great and energetic night for the Bluebirds, and we all anticipate the upcoming season.
