Around 3:30 A.M. EST, most AT&T users were hit with no data and an SOS message. As time went on, the number of users that were without phone usage went up.
At Highlands, many students are struggling with getting cellphone service at school. They are going around trying to find the password to the school wifi so they can stay on their phone.
Senior Michelle Barth said: “I did some schoolwork while my phone was down.”
While students were struggling to find a way to get on their phones, it also was slightly worrisome for parents trying to reach out to their kids.
A parent to a student at Highlands, whose name remains anonymous said: “I was trying to reach out to my daughter about her plans for the evening, and seeing my texts not go through was worrying.”
The issues with the towers started to affect other cellular companies such as Verizon and T-Mobile. In the Tri-State area, we didn’t see as much of an effect in places further west.
Companies are still trying to get everything back to normal and figure out the answers to why everything shut down so quickly.
