Homecoming: Night Away with a Nostalgic Disco Theme

Step into the disco era at our unforgettable homecoming dance!

Highlands High School, here in Fort Thomas, Kentucky held its annual homecoming dance on Saturday, September 7th.

The event saw a tremendous turnout of enthusiastic students, all eager to show their support for their school. Not only were the students in attendance, but the teachers also came to watch the kids enjoy themselves.

As the night unfolded, a lively atmosphere filled the air, with many students congregating outside the venue. However, as soon as they stepped foot inside, the sound of heels being removed echoed throughout the hall.

This seemingly small act highlighted the students’ desire for comfort and freedom of movement, setting the stage for a night filled with energy and excitement.

The event was organized with great enthusiasm and collaboration, led by Ahren Wagner, a respected veteran teacher with 23 years of experience at HHS and an advisor for the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCCLA) group.

This year’s dance theme was “Disco,” which was decided through a democratic voting process by the FCCLA members. Mollie Spears, Annie Bauer, and Lily Arnberg, All juniors at HHS and active members of FCCLA, played significant roles in determining the theme.

After considering various options, including Beauty and the Beast and Under The Sea, the students unanimously chose the vibrant and nostalgic Disco theme. Mollie Spears, FCCLA member?  stated, “She wanted Under The Sea”.

With the theme decided, the FCCLA members worked diligently to transform the dance floor into a groovy, glittering disco wonderland. The decorations showcased the creativity and teamwork of the HHS community, creating an immersive disco experience for all attendees.

The talented students of Highlands High School eagerly awaited the Homecoming Dance, excited to showcase their dance moves and celebrate the spirit of their community.

The event promised unforgettable, allowing students to embrace the disco era and create lasting memories on the dance floor.

Sophia Boehmer, a student at HHS stated, “She was happy, but as soon as she walked through the doors, heels came off, and everyone went to the dance”. Students grooved to the iconic disco throughout the night, showcasing their enthusiasm and passion for dancing. The event showcased their creativity and fostered a sense of unity and camaraderie within the HHS community.

The Homecoming Dance was a testament to the dedication and hard work of the FCCLA members and the support and encouragement of the entire school. It was an evening filled with joy, celebration, and a vibrant disco atmosphere that transported everyone back to the golden era of disco.
