Biggest tour of the year: The Eras Tour has officially begun
On the morning of November 1st, 2023, Taylor Swift announced her new tour “The Eras Tour”, confirming her first official tour in nearly five years following months of rumors. She posted her new album “Midnights” earlier this year, and everybody thought she would perform most of the songs from that album. However, the opening night in Glendale, Arizona showed that we were wrong. During a three-hour show, Taylor ran through hits from every era of the Grammy-winner’s 17-year career. She and her crew performed 44 songs spanning all 10 of her studio albums: ‘Lover’, ‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’, ‘evermore’, ‘reputation’, ‘Speak Now’, ‘Red (Taylor’s Version)’, ‘folklore’, ‘1989’, ‘Taylor Swift’, and ‘Midnights (3 AM Edition)’. The “Eras Tour” is her first concert series since 2018’s Reputation Stadium Tour. In the meantime, Swift has released four new studio albums, ‘Lover’, ‘Folklore’, ‘Evermore’, and ‘Midnights’, and she’s rerecorded several of her former tracks. She also performs 2 different surprise songs at each concert. The tour received unanimous critical acclaim, emphasizing the concept, production, and Swift’s musicianship, vocals, charisma, stamina, and versatility as an entertainer.
Taylor did an incredible show and went through the ten eras of her career. The costumes and the effects for the show, also, were amazing.
The wardrobe of Swift and her accompanying dancers, as well as her microphones and guitars, on the Eras Tour, paid homage to her 10 album eras. They were inspired by previous performances and music videos, intended to align with the overarching themes and palette of the era Swift referenced in each act, showcasing the various sonic and visual aesthetics she had adopted throughout her career.
Attire and accessories were mostly custom-made by fashion houses such as Versace, Christian Louboutin, Etro, Roberto Cavalli, Nicole + Felicia Couture, and Zuhair Murad. Swift wore variations of some costumes for different shows. Fausto Puglisi, a designer for Roberto Cavalli, stated that he took an “artisanal approach to craftsmanship” while customizing outfits for Swift, focusing on the fact that “everything must be eye-catching” when designing for concerts.
Eras Tour has already broken the world record, becoming One Of The Highest-Grossing Tours Of All Time. If things continue the way they’re going now for Taylor, she could rake in $520 million from her tour. And this doesn’t even include the possibility of Taylor taking her “Eras” outside the US to Europe, Asia, and South America. And now people are interested in international concert dates.
