This year our very own Highlands High School was ranked #1 in Northern Kentucky on the U.S. News and World Report annual high school rankings. Overall, Highlands ranked third place in Kentucky but was the highest-ranked non-magnet school. Non-magnet means there is no selection process. Highlands finished with a score of 97.95/100.
Here are some of the statistics that are key points in the criteria of the ranking scale.
The graduation rate is seen at an impressive 98%, which falls above the state average. Testing scores are another important factor in rankings, both mathematics and reading meet above the 50% mark, as well as science with a score of 45, with the state average being 30.
The Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress scored a 98.2% and a score of 95.6% for the National Percentile on College-level Exams, meeting above the U.S. News Expectations.
Principal John Darnell said, “When I first saw this come out I was not surprised, because I think when you put great students and have them work with great teachers I think the results you get it excellence. I think the results we saw on the report validated that we have amazing students and amazing educators.”
