If you have yet to see the Snapchats of sports teams working out together in a brand new state of the art fitness, then you are probably behind on technology and school news; howev- er, it’s not too late to experience all the greatness the center has to offer.
Although many of us may belong to other gyms, such as the recently opened Planet Fitness, YMCA or LA Fitness, the cost and convenience of the Highlands High School Fitness Center are much more attractive. Not only is the gym located in our school, but students only have to pay $20 to join, and the facility is free for district faculty and staff.
While the District takes note that people may have their own exercising routine, creating a place with- in the District to promote health and wellness can, hopefully, encourage the community as a whole to lead healthier lives.
The idea of a Fitness Center has been a long time coming, but it seems as though the center has just recently popped up. The center was associated with renovation Phases III and IV; however, the stag- gering cost of $750,000 did not even include the equipment. Thankfully, Commonwealth Orthopedic and St. Elizabeth donated an additional $140,000 to cover the cost of equipment.
The center not only in- cludes all aspects of a gym that one would expect, but the gym includes some unique aspects: eight sta- tionary resistance machines, three power racks, a leg press, a cable pulley machine, medicine balls, kettle bells, bands and an assortment of dumbbells and weight plates. An area containing artificial turf with sleds and Plyo boxes can be found, and flat screen TVs, a sound system and locker rooms will also be available to the users of the center.
If any of this has interested you, make sure you bring the whole family and check out the Grand Opening on October 23, from 5:30-8:30pm, at which time you can tour the facilities, ask questions and obtain membership.
