Highlands High School was fortunate enough to have two students ad- vance to the state level in golf this year.
Parker Harris, senior, won the boys regional tourna- ment for the third
straight year.
When asked how accomplishing this amazing feat felt, he replied, “It was fun, but it wasn’t as fun winning as it was competing in it.”
Winning a third regional title was special, and he said, “It’s special because it’s the third one, and it was my senior year. Also winning it by chipping in on the 18th hole made it more special.”
At state, Parker shot a 77 on the first day making the cut the second day.
On the second day, he shot an 81, not playing as well as he had hoped.
For the first time in several years, the girls team sent a player to state. Advancing to the state level was senior Alexis Beg- noche. Alexis said, “It was very exciting knowing that it was my senior year.” Alexis shot a 93 on the first day of state, not making the cut but
still having a great experience.
2014 is the first year in a long time that Highlands had a boy and a girl participate in the state tournament. It was very special for these two seniors to go to state, with different motivations, but it was very special for them to just make it to state.
